The solemn celebration for Mary Immaculate and the Inauguration of the Year of Oblate Vocations

Responding to father General Superior and uniting with nearly 4,000 Oblates over 65 countries in the world, Vietnam Mission solemnly celebrated the feast day of Mary Immaculate and the Inauguration of the Year of Oblate Vocations at the St. Eugene de Mazenod Scholasticate. It was held in the town of Lái Thiêu in the Bình Dương province on December 4, 2017.

Bishop Joseph Nguyễn Tấn Tước of Phú Cường diocese presided the Eucharistic celebration.  Concelebrated are more than 40 priests including Oblate priests and the priests coming from 6 dioceses where Oblates are serving. Gathered at this occasion were benefactors, the Oblates’ close relatives from across the country, and over 150 members who are Oblates, novices, pre-novices, and Oblate candidates in Vietnam Mission.

In the opening of the Holy Eucharist, Father Emmanuel Trần Quang Khương, the superior of Vietnam Mission, presented the major developmental progress of Vietnam Mission during the past 16 years in Vietnam, and introduced a fresh fruit of the Mission - father Casimir Nguyễn Ngọc Thanh, who was recently ordained by Bishop Joseph Nguyễn Tấn Tước on December 2, 2017.

In his homily, Bishop Joseph called Mother Mary the First and the most wonderful Oblate as She devoted her own life to carry out God’s will. She is a genuine Oblate and an authentic mirror for Oblates to imitate. Mother Mary is aware of belonging to God, so She completely obeyed God, not in the equal manner as partners of a contract, but as a humble servant. The Bishop earnestly expressed his wish that Oblates may follow the way of Mother Mary, the Patroness Saint of the Congregation; that every Oblate may become aware of belonging to God, completely obey God’s will in the Charism of Saint Eugene in order to bring Good News to the poor and the most abandoned.

After the Communion Rite, the community prayed in unity for Oblate Vocations.

At the end of the Concluding Rite, Father Emmanuel expressed the need  for building a new house for the scholasticate.  He encouraged the collaboration of every member of the Oblate family through praying and sharing to help achieve the project.

After the Holy Eucharist, the community joined in a simple buffet reception. On this special occasion, each partaker was given a present:  an Oblate calendar and a prayer card of Saint Eugene for Oblate Vocation.
